Discover the Hollywood Walk of Fame: A Star-Studded Journey Through Entertainment History

The Hollywood Walk of Fame stands as one of America's most iconic tourist attractions, stretching along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in the heart of Los Angeles. This world-famous sidewalk memorial honors the greatest names in entertainment history, featuring over 2,600 five-pointed terrazzo stars embedded with brass plaques.

The History Behind the Stars

Established in 1958 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the Walk of Fame was created to maintain the glamour of Hollywood and honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry. The original design was created by artist Oliver Weismuller Jr., and the first eight stars were unveiled on February 8, 1960, including legends like Joanne Woodward, Mickey Rooney, and Stanley Kramer.

What Makes Each Star Special

Each star on the Walk of Fame measures 60 centimeters square and is made of pink terrazzo with a brass medallion featuring a motion picture camera for film stars, a television set for TV personalities, a phonograph record for recording artists, a radio tower for radio stars, or a theater mask for live theater performers. The stars are spaced six feet apart and embedded three inches deep in the sidewalk.

Tips for Your Visit

When visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame, wear comfortable walking shoes as you'll want to explore the entire stretch. Start at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, where you'll find the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre. Plan for at least 2-3 hours to properly appreciate the stars and take photos. Consider visiting early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and the intense California sun.

Other Must-See Hollywood Attractions

The Walk of Fame connects seamlessly with other Hollywood landmarks including the TCL Chinese Theatre, Dolby Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), the Hollywood & Highland Center, and the Hollywood Museum. The Hollywood Wax Museum and Madame Tussauds are also within walking distance, making this area a comprehensive entertainment district experience.
